Start earlier than you think
The first dental visit should happen by your child's first birthday, or within six months of the first tooth appearing. That visit is mostly a look, a count, and a conversation with you about brushing and feeding.
Children who meet a dentist before anything hurts almost never develop dental anxiety. That is worth more to them than any single filling.
What we do for children
- Fluoride application: A quick varnish that measurably strengthens enamel against decay.
- Pit and fissure sealants: A thin protective coating over the deep grooves of new molars, where most childhood cavities begin.
- Milk tooth fillings: Baby teeth hold space for the adult teeth behind them. Losing them early causes crowding later.
- Habit correction: Appliances and counselling for thumb sucking, mouth breathing and tongue thrusting.
- Space maintainers: If a milk tooth is lost too early, we hold the gap open so the permanent tooth has somewhere to come.
For anxious children
We use a tell, show, then do approach: everything is explained and demonstrated before it is used. Nothing is forced, and a first appointment that ends in a high-five and no treatment is a successful appointment.
